Resumen: La presente comunicación está conformada por una reflexión teórica “Comencemos a caminar” en la que trato algunas cuestiones genéricas en torno a la noción de deriva urbana, el trabajo con el cuerpo, la memoria y los lugares. Utilizaré como mapa de este breve recorrido algunas reflexiones de Maaschelein y Agamben
en torno a la idea de estudio, el viaje y la atención y la importancia de la experiencia para “ver” el camino. Citaré “el caminar a pie” de Walter Benjamin en Dirección Única y algunas citas de Blanchot, Weil, Sontag, Hugo de San Victor, etc. Intentaré articular estas ideas con algunas estrategias empleadas por artistas visuales como el “detournement” situacionista, el “acto de andar como principio” de Richard Long, el extrañamiento del lugar de Robert Smithson, el propio recorrido como relato ficcional, de Sophie Calle o la problemática reconstrucción de la identidad planteada por Cindy Sherman.
En una segunda parte presento un proyecto artístico en el que vengo trabajando desde hace 6 años “The Waste City/La Ciudad Baldía” realizado desde la disciplina del arte. El proyecto consta de seis performances en espacios, lugares y contenedores urbanos que generan una serie de piezas audiovisuales. Los vídeos documentan la atmósfera de los recorridos y su naturaleza circular en el que unas intérpretes de danza Butoh son filmadas con sus cuerpos desnudos pintados de blanco recorriendo las calles y las arquitecturas monumentales de la ciudad. Terminaré sólo citando de pasada algunos autores de otros medios literarios como Yasunari Kawabata, Jorge Luis Borges, George Perec, Italo Calvino y James Joyce como ejemplos de la red que se establece entre los lugares, los acontecimientos y la memoria.
Abstract
This lecture consists of a theoretical reflection titled “Let's start to walk” in which I deal with some generic issues around the notion of urban drift, work with the body, memory and places. I will use as a map of this short journey some reflections by Maaschelein and Agamben on the idea of studying, travel, attention and the importance of experience to be able to “see” the path. I will cite Walter Benjamin's “Walking on foot” in Unique Direction along with Blanchot, Weil, Sontag, Hugh of Saint Victor, etc. I will try to articulate these ideas with some strategies used by visual artists like the situationist “détournement”, Richard Long's “act of walking as a principle”, Robert Smithson's estrangement of place, Sophie Calle's use of the route itself as a fictional story or the problematic reconstruction of identity proposed by Cindy Sherman. On a second part I present an artistic project that I have been working on for the past six years: “The Waste City/La ciudad baldía”, done within an artistic discipline. The project consists of six performances in spaces, places, and urban containers that generate a series of audiovisual pieces. Videos document the atmosphere of the tours and their circular nature, in which Butoh dancers are filmed naked, their bodies painted white while they roam the streets and monumental architecture of the city. I will finish by quoting in passing some authors from other literary media like Yasunari Kawabata, Jorge Luis Borges, Georges Perec, Italo Calvino and James Joyce as examples of the network that is established between places, events and memory.
