reflejan cambios climáticos y eustáticos e intensa neotectónica durante tres periodos interglaciares (IS 7?,
5 Y
[ABSTRACT]
We studied the pattern of the age of death for Democricetodon larteti, a rodent species from the Somosaguas South fossil
site (middle Miocene), in terms of wear degree of its third molars. The results indicate a great abundance of elements
with scarce tooth wear (young individuals) in our study population. These results do not fi t in the pattern obtained in other
works with modern rodents, or in other fossil sites. However, they are manifestly consistent with the data obtained in
previous works with macromammals from Somosaguas, where the existence of high rate of death of young individuals
is associated to events of high aridity.

[ABSTRACT]
Some macroevolutionary hypotheses propose a synchrony between climatic changes and variations in the structure of
faunal communities. These theories make clear the importance of the degree of ecological specialization of the taxa.
In this work we evaluated the variation of the relative proportions of generalist and specialist rodents along the Iberian
Plio-Pleistocene. We measured the degree of specialization using the biomic specialization index (BSI). It was possible
to show the decrease of the specialist species due to the climatic perturbation generated by the onset of the glaciations, as
well as the latter faunal recovery characterized by a proportional increment of specialists.

Resumen: This paper presents the existing differences between the evolution of the
Holocene landscape of the Southeastern and Southwestern areas of the Iberian
Peninsula. Moreover,
some palaeoenvironmental characteristics of OIS 4 and OIS 3
of the western Andalusia appear. The five presented sequences have been analyzed
from palynological and geomorphological point of view. The obtained results show
that during the Holocene no significant forest cover existed in the eastern area and
that the different phases identified mainly show an alternation of shrub and steppe
communities, taking place during the fifth millennium a radical transformation of
the landscape and the definitive establishment of the semi-desert conditions that
are registered at the present time. In the western area the evolution of the landscape
is determined basically by the changes of geomorphological conditions of the coast
and the marshland zones of the Guadalquivir and the Tinto-Odiel systems, registering
diverse moments of increase of the aridity conditions, without remarkable changes
in the vegetal landscape. Sequences obtained do not provide evidence of indicators
of human intervention that might be clearly attributable to the pattern of human
activities established in the area until a the two millennium ago.

[ABSTRACT]
During the last years it has been producing a substantial decrease in the number of university
students in the area of natural sciences, at the same time it has been increasing considerably the number
of applicants interested in the Somosaguas palaeontological excavations. Considering this success, The
Palaeontological Project of Somosaguas is arranging an investigation group composed by young researchers
(Equipo de Introducción a la Investigación GeoPaleoBiológica en Somosaguas) which has been in function
since 2007 and which has been encouraging results. This can be observed in two facets: In one hand the
increase in the number of students interested in joining to this group, but also in these two years we have been able to establish the scientific relevance of this project through results in form of publications and
presentations in congresses, and other divulgative events. The Somosaguas palaeontological site is situated
in a university campus, and it is yielding middle Miocene vertebrate fossil remains. This peculiarity has
facilitated, during these years, not only the scientific work, but also to convert this fossil site in an open
space available to people unfamiliar with palaeontology, specially in such collectives of people with special
needs functional diversity, developing an area which we have denominated Social Palaeontology
