Dante, Petrarca, Ariosto and Tasso were considered the highest point of italian poetry. In many editions of their masterpieces, Divina Commedia Per buona parte del XIX secolo fu diffuso, non solo in Italia, il canone dei «quattro poeti». In Dante, Petrarca, Ariosto e Tasso si vide cioè il culmine della poesia italiana.
